Bristol Rovers have signed Shrewsbury striker Matt Harrold for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old passed a medical at the Memorial Stadium on Thursday before putting pen to paper on a two-year deal which will begin on June 20.

Rovers boss Paul Buckle is delighted to have captured a player he feels can be a key man for his side this season, and he said: "Matt wasn't officially available - he wasn't on any lists and I wasn't contacted by any agents about him. But he's a player I've always liked, so I thought why not have a go for him."

He added: "I think we've got lucky because I believe he's someone who can play at League Two level or the division above."

Harrold, who stands at 6ft 3ins, joined Shrewsbury last summer on a two-year deal and scored nine goals in 47 appearances.

Buckle added: "He's certainly a target man and it's always hard to find one of those who is a prolific scorer, but he will set up goals for other people and when the ball goes up front it will stick with him.

"His all-round game is excellent, his work-rate is phenomenal and after having had a good talk with him, I think we can work well together."
