Sunderland are getting ready to announce their first signing of the season - Liverpool youngster David Ngog, according to the Journal.
Sunderland reportedly hope to make Ngog a Black Cat by the end of next week, after being given precedence over the striker as a result of the sale of Jordan Henderson to Liverpool for close to £20 million.
While it had been reported that Ngog was involved in a swap deal of sorts with Henderson, Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli insisted that this wasn’t yet confirmed.
“Sunderland have had a strong interest in David, so we’ve agreed to let David speak to Sunderland about his future to see if he’s interested in going there,” Comolli said a week ago.
“They’ve expressed a strong interest, so we’ll see what’s next for him.”
And now the star looks set to make the move to Sunderland, with the fee said to be in the vicinity of £3 million, and the Black Cats reportedly still considering the possibility of treating the transaction as a swap deal with Liverpool.
Ngog returns from holiday next week, when a deal looks set to be signed.
