Manchester City coach Attilio Lombardo has given the clearest indication yet that the club are in talks to bring in-demand Udinese winger Alexis Sanchez to Eastlands.
The 22-year-old Chilean international has attracted interest from a number of Europe's biggest clubs including Barcelona, Inter Milan, and City's local rivals Manchester United.
"He is an excellent player for any big club in Europe," Lombardo confirmed in an interview with Il Friuli.
"He is a very fast player, a great champion, with a great personality and touch of the ball. I repeat, it would be a major boost for any team.
"Manchester City are always aware of what's happening around great players and Alexis Sanchez fits the profile of football that our club is looking for," he continued.
Recent reports suggested that Roberto Mancini had tabled a bid of €38million (£33.5m) for Sanchez, but Lombardo could not shed any light on such speculation.
"It's not something I can comment on. The company is working hard on purchases, but I'm not authorised to give any details, let alone talk about figures.
"There are people in charge, working with the coaching staff. This is what I can say. The market is an important issue and we want a great team for next season, with great players."
