Everton defender Phil Jagielka is hoping for a winning start to their 2011-12 Barclays Premier League campaign when they visit Tottenham on the opening day of the season.

The Toffees begin their campaign at White Hart Lane before facing Queens Park Rangers in their first home game of the season. And Jagielka is aiming for a flying start to the season.

"It is similar to last season with the first game being away from home but hopefully we will put in a better performance," he said.

"We have a decent record at White Hart Lane but it will be a tough one first up. Hopefully we can get a better start than we did last season."

The visit of QPR will reunite Jagielka with former boss Neil Warnock, and the centre back admits it was one of the first games he looked out for on the fixture list.

"That is one of the fixtures I was looking out for, with him being my old manager," revealed Jagielka. I'm sure there will be a few laughs and jokes before kick off and hopefully a few more afterwards!

"I am sure Neil Warnock will have put a good team and a good squad together over the close season and they will be a hard team to beat.

"If you look at the last few seasons one or two of the promoted teams have tended to do well at the start of the season."
