Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Steven Pienaar knows what to expect when Everton visit White Hart Lane on the opening day of the new season.
The South African international moved to north London from Merseyside in January, and is yet to face his former club since leaving Goodison Park.
As fate would have it, the Toffees are first on the agenda for Spurs, and Pienaar is looking forward to the game despite the anticipated difficulties that come against facing a former club.
“It will be the first time I’ve faced Everton since moving to Spurs, I’m looking forward to it and I hope we take all three points to get a positive start to the season,” the midfielder told the official club website.
“It’s always difficult when you face your old club but you have to stay focused. It’s a game that will test you mentally because you know all the players, the staff and what that club is all about.
“It’s the first game of the season and our supporters will want us to go all-out, especially at home. For us though, the key is to be patient, open them up and when we do, make sure we take our chances.”
Pienaar made 11 appearances for Tottenham Hotspur after the move, with injuries hampering his impact for Harry Redknapp's side after an impressive debut against AC Milan in the Champions League.
