Johnson choosing from trial players

Manager Gary Johnson believes Northampton will only sign "one or two" of the released players they have invited for trials.

The Cobblers return to training next week ahead of the new season and 20 out-of-contract players will be trying to catch Johnson's eye and earn the chance to join the squad for pre-season.

"It's not for anyone to turn up with their boots, they've got to be invited and agreed by us," Johnson told the Northampton Chronicle.

"If we took on every player who wanted to come here we'd have a squad of 150 players so we've been really fussy on who we've invited in.

"It's difficult to find out too much about their characters in a couple of days but that is an important factor for us.

"So from 20 players there might be one or two joining us when we start pre-season training."
