Northampton have signed former loanee Ben Tozer on a two-year contract following his release from Newcastle.
The defender began his career at Plymouth before he signed for Swindon in the summer of 2007 and made his full debut in a Carling Cup match with Charlton.
In November 2007, he had a four-day trial with Everton before moving to Newcastle in January 2008, penning a four-and-a-half year deal with the club.
He moved to Sixfields on loan in September 2010, making 31 starts and three substitute appearances, scoring three times.
"I am pleased to add Ben to the squad on a permanent basis, he really won me over when he was on loan," said Cobblers boss Gary Johnson.
"I wasn't sure when I first came in, but I was impressed with his attitude and his willingness to get his head down and fight his way back into the side towards the end of the season after his injury. He showed all the characteristics of a winner and someone who has the desire and determination to make things happen."
