Alex McLeish has announced that Aston Villa legend Gordon Cowans will take on a backroom job, as Villa's management structure for next season takes shape.
"Gordon will join me in a first team coaching capacity,” McLeish told the official Aston Villa website.
"He's an Aston Villa legend and it will be good to work with Gordon. He's a fresh coach for me and that will be great.
"I will also be looking to add to the staff over the next two or three weeks.
"Gordon provides that continuity. That's great. It's important to have that Villa identity around the first team and around me too.
"He'll be able to show me the ropes and keep me right.”
McLeish will notch his first official game time with Villa when they start their Asia tour in July, and the manager is looking forward to seeing his squad and backroom working together.
"Tours are always good from the point of view of the team bonding and getting to know the players from a personal basis,” McLeish said.
"Then we come back and play some games in England before we hopefully get off to a flyer in the Premier League.”
McLeish wants to get off to a firing start next season, with Villa taking on Fulham, Blackburn and Wolves in their first three matches.
"We have a tough away game at Fulham and then two games following that at home,” the manager said.
"As I keep saying it's about results and getting off to a good start.
"We will prepare the players as well as we possibly can so when the first whistle of the season goes those lads are bursting to bring victory to Aston Villa.
"I can't wait to get started and get the guys on the training field. I can't wait to get the ball out again.
"All this build-up surrounding my arrival I have to go through but the bottom line is getting those boys out on the training field."
