Portsmouth are set to complete the signing of highly-rated Bournemouth centre-back Jason Pearce after he agreed personal terms with the Championship outfit.

The Cherries have accepted an undisclosed bid from their south-coast neighbours, paving the way for their skipper to return to the club he left in 2007.

Pearce started his career at Fratton Park and emerged through the youth system before switching to Dean Court, but his progress over the past four years has convinced Pompey to re-sign the 23-year-old.

And they had to beat off stiff competition from a host of rival clubs including Peterborough, who recently saw their move for the defender collapse due to a 'forgotten' sell-on clause in the player's contract which ironically entitled Portsmouth to 50% of any sale.

A statement on Bournemouth's official website on Friday morning read: "Jason Pearce has agreed personal terms with Portsmouth.

"The two clubs have agreed an undisclosed fee for the transfer of the defender."
