Morecambe have signed midfielder Gary McDonald and striker Lewis Alessandra.

Former Scotland B international McDonald, 29, began his career at Kilmarnock before spells at Oldham, Aberdeen and Hamilton.

Alessandra came through the youth system at Oldham, and the 22-year-old went on to make more than 60 first-team appearances for the Latics.

"Both players are fantastic additions to the squad and I am excited about working with both of them," manager Jim Bentley told the club's official website.

"I met both of them earlier this week and they were great lads who were really impressed by the set up here.

"Both have played at League One level and above and have a lot of experience which will be a great benefit to us."
