Carlisle are set to give Danish teenager Michael Brodersen a pre-season trial as manager Greg Abbott looks to add to his attacking options.

Brodersen will fly to England from Denmark on Monday, where he plays for Silkeborg, and the striker will be available on a free transfer should he impress.

But Abbott admits it has been a struggle to find an established forward in time for the new season, which has led to him trailing the unproven 19-year-old, telling the News and Star: "We thought we were in the running for one player, but he was offered a big financial package from another club."

He added: "We can't rush. Every player we've rushed for we can't afford and the ones available now aren't better than the ones we've got.

"Michael is very young and has scored a few goals in Denmark.

"We will run the rule over him and see if he could be an option."
