Toffees could be in possession of 'the new Zidane'

Everton youngster Magaye Gueye is aiming build on his debut season at Goodison Park with a prolonged run in David Moye's first team.

The 20-year-old French forward made eight appearances for the Toffees during the last campaign and, although he failed to find the net, Gueye impressed with his pace and tenacity.

Gueye, who joined Everton from Strasbourg, last summer is able to operate across the front line, but has his sights set on the classic No.10 role, with the hope of emulating his hero, Zinedine Zidane.

“I can play on the left or on the right and up front – that is not a problem,” Gueye told the official Everton website. “But my favourite position is probably just behind the striker.

“There you get freedom to play all over the pitch. You can score goals and help the team but also be creative as well. It is also where Zidane played and he is my hero, so I always liked the position.”

However, before Gueye can reach a level anywhere near his compatriot, he must be given game time to display his attributes, and the Frenchman is targeting a regular starting berth for Everton.

“Next season hopefully I can play more games,” he added. “I think this first year was more about settling in and learning about English football.

“I think I have already got better in my time here. I have got more used to the style of play as it is different from France where the football is not as physical. That is the biggest difference I have had to get used to.

“My objective is to come back and have a really good pre-season, get really fit and strong, impress the manager and get into the team for the first game.”
