Magpies duo will not be flying the next

Newcastle United assistant manager John Carver insists that Jose Enrique and Joey Barton will both return to the club for pre-season training despite speculation that the duo are set to follow Kevin Nolan out of the club.

Enrique has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, while Barton, since rejecting a new deal at St James's Park, has been linked with Arsenal, although he did recently commit his future to the Magpies.

Carver says he expects both players to report for duty next week, and adds: “As far as we are aware, Jose will be back on Monday - I have been told nothing to the reverse - and Jose will be getting a warm welcome like he always does,” Carver told the Evening Chronicle.

"I know he will give us 100 per cent, like he always does, and he wouldn't dream of letting anybody down. As far as I know, everybody will be back, including Jose and Joey Barton, and it will be great to see them again.

"They are all still under contract and will be ready to start preparing for the new season with Newcastle United."

Both players have just a year remaining on their current deals, leading to speculation that Newcastle may cash in on the pair this summer, instead of opting to lose them on a free next summer.
