Former Liverpool goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek is being linked with a shock move to Leeds United, according to the Mirror.

The 38-year-old, released by Real Madrid at the end of the season, has made just two club appearances during his four-year career at the Bernabeu.

And with Leeds looking to replace Kasper Schmeichel, after his sale to Leicester City, manager Simon Grayson sees Dudek as the ideal man to help The Whites seal promotion back to the Premier League.

Dudek won the Champions League in 2005 with Liverpool as he saved Andrey Shevchenko's penalty following a thrilling 3-3 draw with AC Milan.

The Pole's career has since hit the buffers, after Liverpool brought Pepe Reina from Villarreal.

Leeds meanwhile are looking to replace Schmeichel, son of Manchester United's legend Peter, after he was sold to Championship rivals Leicester for £1 million.

Despite being relegated in 2004, the rivalry between themselves and Liverpool is still fresh in the memory for both sets of supporters.

The two clubs battled over every domestic honour in England, most famously in the 1965 FA Cup final, which saw Ian St. John's extra-time winner settle the contest at Wembley.

Leeds' relegation from the Premier League in 2004 was following another relegation to the Championship in 2007.

FA Cup showings against United at Old Trafford, and Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium helped propel them back into the big time, but Leeds failed to complete their remarkable comeback with promotion back to the Premier League.
