Arsenal hold strong as United and City chase £20m playmaker target

Samir Nasri is locked in a transfer battle between Manchester City and Manchester United, with Arsenal now hoping they can withstand a £20 million bid for their prized star, according to the Independent.

While yesterday Manchester City had reportedly put forward a £20 million bid for Nasri, United are now looking at promising a larger sum in the hopes of stealing the Arsenal star from their rivals.

While it was reported that Manchester City were having talks with Nasri, the Independent claims that these rumours are untrue, and Arsenal are in fact waiting for offers to come in from both City and United in their pursuit of the 24-year-old over the next week.

Talks of Samir making a move to Manchester United has been rife for weeks, with the star recently telling reporters: "Do I want to go to United? We should see if their interest is real and if it is concrete first.”

But when City found out that Nasri is available for talks this summer, the Eastlands club reportedly jumped on the chance to make their move and gazump Manchester United.

City are particularly desperate to sign Nasri after their pursuit of Alexis Sanchez fell through, with Roberto Mancini admitting yesterday that the club had been left out of the race for the Udinese star.
