New signing Andy Reid has cited boss Steve McClaren as a key reason for his return to Nottingham Forest.

The Republic of Ireland international moved back to the City Ground, where he started his career 11 years ago, on a free transfer on Friday. Reid is relishing the challenge of playing for former England boss McClaren, who he believes will guide Forest back into the Barclays Premier League.

He told the club's official website: "I met the manager and had a good chat with him - as soon as I left his office I knew I wanted to play for him. I can see where the club is going and where he wants to take it and I really want to be part of it."

He added: "My affection for the club is well known. I signed here when I was 14, was nurtured through to the first team and everyone was so good to me."
