Liverpool continue to plot more new acquisitions before the start of the new season, but the return to fitness of Steven Gerrard will be far more important that any signing.
The Reds skipper has not featured since early March, and has since undergone surgery to correct an ongoing injury complaint.
Should he be fit for the start of the new campaign, Gerrard could partner £16 million man Jordan Henderson in a new-look Liverpool midfielder - a mouth-watering prospect for the Anfield faithful.
And, as the Liverpool squad prepares to report for training on Monday, manager Kenny Dalglish remains optimistic he will have his captain available for pre-season.
"We start back Monday so we'll see how everybody is then,” said the Liverpool boss.
“Everything that has been done has been very positive for Steven so we are just hoping for the best for him.
“He deserves a bit of luck on the injury front. We won't put him under any undue pressure.
“All we'll say everything has been fantastic so far."
