Arsenal are readying a £12 million swoop for Wolves striker Kevin Doyle, with Arsene Wenger desperate to end the London club’s trophyless run, according to the Daily Mirror.
Doyle has starred for Wolves this season, and Wenger is reportedly hopeful that he can coax the 27-year-old to join a side that can offer Champions League football.
While in the past, Wenger has tended to buy players from outside England, the Arsenal manager is now ready to start purchasing more British players to compete with Manchester United and Liverpool, who are both moving towards targeting home grown footballers.
Along with Doyle, Gary Cahill and Scott Parker are also said to be targets for Wenger, and a new look Arsenal squad appears to be taking shape, with Gervinho also set to sign for the club and Adel Taarabt admitting he is fielding interest from the Gunners.
This summer looks set to undergo some big spending on Wenger’s part, and with Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas poised for an exit to Barcelona, and Gael Clichy and Samir Nasri talking to rival clubs, cash from sales within the span of £60 million would make Doyle a very affordable addition to the Arsenal squad.
