Newcastle join race for Real Madrid starlet – reports

Newcastle are targeting Real Madrid winger Sergio Canales, and hope to bring the wonderkid over to St James’ Park for a loan spell next season, according to the Daily Mirror.

QPR, Aston Villa and Everton are all reportedly chasing the 20-year-old, who has featured just 10 times for Read Madrid since moving to the club from Racing Santander for a reported €6 million.

But Newcastle see a lot of potential in Canales, and believe he would help bolster the Toon’s midfield.

Alan Pardew has been one of the most active managers in the transfer market, already completing a trio of French signings along with West Ham striker Demba Ba. An offer has also been made public for Swansea star Neil Taylor, and should that go through, Pardew will also be looking for some more strength up front to replace the departed Newcastle striker Andy Carroll.

Pardew is reportedly confident of stealing the march on his Barclays Premier League rivals, and putting Canales, who has fielded interest from Manchester United in the past, into next season's Newcastle squad.
