Liverpool's head of fitness and conditioning Darren Burgess has warned players to be prepared for a gruelling start to pre-season.
After welcoming the squad back to Melwood ahead of the club's Far East tour of Asia, the Aussie coach has begun putting the Reds stars through their paces in a bid to get them in peak condition for the club's trip.
"It will be a very tough week this week," said Burgess. "When we go to Asia it will be quite warm and the humidity will be quite high.
"It will be harder to get a lot of work in when we’re over there, so we want to make sure we get a fair bit of work in at Melwood before we head over."
The squad kick off their pre-season with an eight-day trip to Asia, with scheduled matches in Malaysia and China before returning to England to embark on the 2011/12 campaign.
After the players made a staggered return to training this time last year following the World Cup in South Africa.
Liverpool's coaching staff now have the luxury of a near-full squad at their disposal, missing only Luis Suarez and Lucas Leiva, who are on international duty at the Copa America with Uruguay and Brazil respectively.
Burgess however, is in daily contact with the South American stars and is keeping tabs on their progress before the duo join up with the rest of the squad on their return to Merseyside.
