Former Aston Villa striker and current MLS star Juan Pablo Angel believes Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor will become a productive partnership.
Angel, who plays for the LA Galaxy alongside David Beckham, thinks the key to their success will be beginning to work together early in pre-season, and as often as possible considering their limited time together thus far.
"I think Darren and Gabby have a good chance to flourish but they will have to start developing that partnership from the start of pre-season. They haven't played much together as a strike partnership so far," said the Colombian.
"It's about developing that partnership but I have no doubt they have the ability to play together. It's about building that relationship. Hopefully that can begin in pre-season and build it and be successful for Villa.
Angel was impressed with the form Bent showed after his £24 million move from Sunderland last January, whilst Agbonlahor, who played with Angel during his last season at Villa Park in 2007, has the pace to stretch Barclays Premier League clubs and will complement Bent perfectly, according to the former Villains favourite.
He continued: "I think Darren is a top player and a great goalscorer. He really impressed me last season with his goals and I'm sure he will continue that kind of form next season.
"Gabby has improved as a player and a striker since I left. He was a young lad developing his game when I was at Villa.
"Look at the goals he's scored over the past few seasons. He didn't have the best time of it last season but he didn't always play up front as a striker, he was used more as a winger.
"He has something that is absolutely key to playing football, playing up front and playing in the top-flight and that's speed. He's added the strength too, that's an extra part of his game.
"He can more clinical in front of goal and I'm sure that will continue to improve. But what he can definitely do is stretch teams - that's very important. I hope to see him more this season with Darren. I am sure they will be a very good partnership together."
