Brazilian goalkeeper Alexander Doni has revealed that he rejected a move to Athletico Madrid to sign for Liverpool.
The Reds are keen to find an experienced replacement for Pepe Reina after they missed out on signing Brad Friedel earlier this summer.
Meanwhile, Madrid are keen to bring in a new goalkeeper following the sale of David De Gea, but Liverpool appear to have won the race for Doni.
The player's agent Ovidio Colucci said: "It's true that Athletico showed an interest in the goalkeeper but they did it indirectly."
"They did it through intermediaries, so there's nothing to it. The only concrete offer is that of Liverpool.
"Of course anything could happen before the signatures are added to the contracts, but I can confirm that there is only Liverpool for Doni."
