West Ham boss Sam Allardyce will have the opportunity to run the rule over his new charges this week within the confines of a Swiss training base, as the Hammers' pre-season preparations begin to go up a notch..
Star trio Scott Parker, Robert Green and Carlton Cole are all part of the touring party - who face BSC Young Boys this evening - as the Npower Championship season approaches.
This could see summer acquisitions Kevin Nolan and Abdoulaye Faye make their first appearances in a West Ham shirt, while also affords the chance for some younger players to impress their new manager.
Junior Stanislas and Jordan Brown are planning to do just that, with the young duo both having suffered with injury problems last season.
Stanislas, 21, has been a first team squad regular in recent seasons but was restricted to just eight appearances last term after a hernia operation in January.
The versatile attacker is now determined to force himself into the plans of Big Sam - and a productive pre-season will no doubt help him fulfil his ambitions.
"I'd say I'm 90 per cent fit," Stanislas told whufc.com. "I still get little niggles and stuff, but at the moment it seems to be getting stronger and stronger every day, so it's all good..
"The last few seasons I've been in and out and last season I had my injury problems, so this season I just want to play as many games as I can and hopefully be a regular in the side."
Brown, meanwhile, has yet to make his senior bow at Upton Park but, having been sidelined for over half of the previous campaign, he hopes next season could be his chance to shine.
"It is going to be a new start for everyone. The manager is not going to know us young boys and we have to see who can get in," said the 19-year-old..
"For the younger players there will be more games and the coaches will need more bodies. I want to do as much as I can in pre-season and get as many games as I can..
"This season could be the one. I told my family that this could be the biggest season I have ever had, and I need to show what I can do. It can only take one game and you have to take your chance when it comes."
