Liverpool target Doni is set to undergo a medical at Anfield, four years on from his Roma side's humiliation at the hands of Manchester United.

The 31-year-old is expected to become Kenny Dalglish's third summer signing this week.

However, supporters of rivals United will be licking their lips at the thought of Doni standing between the sticks for Liverpool, after the Brazilian endured a tough outing at Old Trafford in 2007.

With Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney at their scintillating best, United thumped Roma 7-1 at the Threatre of Dreams, and evening for Doni that quickly became a nightmare.

Four years on, and the keeper is set for a permanent return to England, and despite being expected to play second fiddle to Pepe Reina for Liverpool, may have the opportunity to make amends against the side that humiliated him in the Champions League.

Doni is unlikely to need an extensive pep talk about the significance of United and Liverpool's rivalry, but maybe like no other overseas star to arrive on British shores, he has a vendetta to settle.
