Adam Birchall has become Gillingham's eighth signing of the summer, penning a three-year deal.

The former Dover striker attracted interest from Swindon and AFC Wimbledon, but Gills chairman Paul Scally fought off the competition to sign the 26-year-old, despite having an initial offer rejected.

The Maidstone-born striker began his career in the Premier League with Arsenal and was capped 12 times by Wales at Under-21 level.

He then enjoyed stints at Wolves, Mansfield and Barnet before joining Dover in 2009 where he scored an impressive 64 goals in 78 league and cup appearances.
