Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a boost in their pursuit of midfielder Lassana Diarra.
The French international has been heavily linked with a move away from Real Madrid this summer, and appears to have moved a step closer to an exit from the Santiago Bernabeu after being left out of the club's pre-season tour squad.
Los Blancos travel to America without Diarra amidst reports that the Spanish giants will listen to offers for the player, with Spurs boss Harry Redknapp joined by Sir Alex Ferguson in his interest of the player.
A former Chelsea, Arsenal and Portsmouth player, Redknapp has experience working with the 26-year-old during their time together at Fratton Park, and will be hoping that can help persuade the player to move to White Hart Lane.
The Daily Mirror claims Jose Mourinho wants in the region of £20 million for the player, a figure which Spurs and other suitors are not thought to be willing to pay.
After spending £27 million on Benfica defender Fabio Coentrao, the La Liga giants are eager to recoup some of their funds, with reports in the same paper a week ago that Madrid were eager to negotiate with Tottenham Hotspur over a fee for the player.
With Spurs also interested in Madrid playmaker Esteban Granero, a potential double deal could be placed on the table by the north Londoners as Redknapp looks to build a squad capable of returning to the top four in the Barclays Premier League next season.
Keeping Luka Modric could be key to those ambitions, but were Tottenham Hotspur to lose the Croatian, Redknapp will be looking to build his midfield in an effort to nullify the loss.
