The Metro claims that Nicklas Bendtner could be poised for a move to Newcastle, after Hamburg admitted that they have not made an offer for the £12 million star.
“Nicklas Bendtner is a very interesting player. His signing would be a real dream,” Frank Arnesen, sporting director at Hamburg, told reporters.
“But there are two clubs that have made offers for Nicklas, and unfortunately, we are not among them.”
Newcastle have been linked to Bendtner on a couple of occasions this summer, and while Arsenal have a £12 million asking price over the star’s head, the Toon would certainly be able to afford Bendtner with the £35 million made from Andy Carroll’s sale.
The paper believes though that Newcastle are waiting for other clubs to fall short of the price that Arsenal are demanding, so that they can get a good deal for Bendtner, and the Toon are preparing to ‘steam in’ when the time is right to talk a deal with Arsenal.
Sporting Lisbon are reportedly also interested in signing Bendtner, but should the star want to stay in England, Newcastle may have the edge to get the striker on board.
