Liverpool are close to completing a move for Stewart Downing with Kenny Dalglish reportedly flying home from the club's tour of the Far East to seal a £20 million swoop for the England winger after a fee was agreed.
However, reports claim Dalglish will be tying up more than one deal on his return to Merseyside. As AS Roma reportedly seal a deal for Cameroonian goalkeeper Idriss Kameni, it has been confirmed by the player's agent that Alexander Doni will be heading to Anfield.
Doni has been backup to Julio Sergio in Rome and, with the reported signing of the highly rated Kameni, has been labelled as surplus to requirements and will head to Liverpool as their new No.2.
Doni’s agent said: “"Everything is okay with Liverpool. We are returning to Rome to sign the final documents.
"The deal will be finally completed tomorrow and Doni will be back at Liverpool on Sunday to be available for Dalglish.”
The addition of Doni would provide good competition for Pepe Reina, who was criticised for a number of mistakes last season at Liverpool. Most notable was his mistake against Arsenal, when he scored an own-goal in extra-time and gifted the Gunners a point.
