Pavone 'agrees' Blackburn deal

Mariano Pavone has agreed a deal to join Blackburn, according to the striker's agent.

The Argentinian, who is a free agent after buying himself out of his contract with Real Betis earlier this summer, has been heavily linked with a switch to Rovers in recent days.

Pavone's agent Barry McIntosh told "Mariano is delighted to get his chance in English football. He has spoken to several clubs but he was particularly impressed by (Rovers boss) Steve Kean."

He added: "Steve made him feel very welcome and explained his plans, and Mariano was delighted with what he heard. He is now looking forward to the next chapter with an ambitious club like Blackburn."

Pavone left Betis last July and returned to Argentina to join River Plate on loan but his time in South America ended on a sour note last month when he missed a penalty in the defeat by Club Atletico Belgrano that resulted in the Buenos Aires club suffering relegation for the first time in their history.

The 29-year-old, who began his career with Estudiantes, has a single cap for Argentina after playing against Chile in 2007.

Blackburn, who have yet to add to their squad this summer, declined to comment.
