Napoli have slapped an €100 million price over Marek Hamsik’s head, as Manchester United continue to chase the star.
"The indecent proposal I referred to (earlier this month) would be of €100 million," Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis said.
"Otherwise, Hamsik will remain here."
AC Milan have also been connected to Hamsik, but United were thought to be favourites to sign the midfielder.
With Paul Scholes retiring, Sir Alex Ferguson is reportedly on the lookout for a big midfield signing. Manchester United have already made some big moves in the transfer window, signing big names Phil Jones, Ashley Young and David De Gea, but the club are still yet to build on their centre.
While Wesley Sneijder and Samir Nasri were high on Manchester United’s transfer wish list, both deals appear to have fallen through, because both Inter Milan and Arsenal are refusing to sell their stars.
Now, Ferguson will consider whether Hamsik is worth the big transfer money.
