Liverpool have confirmed the signing of goalkeeper Alexander Doni from AS Roma.

The Brazilian international agreed personal terms and put pen to paper on a deal after he passed a medical at Melwood.

The 31-year-old made 179 appearances for Roma during his six season spell at the Serie A club, during which time he won the Coppa Italia twice as well as the Supercoppa Italiana.

Doni also helped his country Brazil, for whom he's earned 10 caps, win the Copa America in 2007.

The keeper will compete with Spaniard Pepe Reina and Australian Brad Jones for a place in the Liverpool first-team.

Under new manager Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool underwent a mini revival after a difficult start to last seasons campaign, and due to the form of new signings Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll, are considered genuine contenders for the Barclays Premier League title next season.
