Fiorentina manager Sinisa Mihajlovic has said that in order for him to play his desired style of football, he would need a player like Liverpool midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
Fiorentina have been linked with Aquilani for the past week, but Aquilani’s agent has said the Italian international’s future lies at Anfield.
But that didn’t stop Mihajlovic from mentioning Aquilani by name in his plans for the style he’d like to play at Fiorentina.
“I would like to play the 4-3-1-2 system, but that means we’d need an Aquilani-style player,” Mihajlovic said.
Aquilani’s place in the Liverpool side has come into doubt after the signings of Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam.
Like Aquilani, Raul Meireles and Christian Poulsen also have uncertain futures in the congested Liverpool midfield.
And Like Aquilani, Meireles and Poulsen both have issued statements themselves of through their representatives that they will remain at Liverpool next season.
Despite the insistence that he will remain at Liverpool next season, Poulsen has been linked with a £2.5 million return to Copenhagen.
Meireles’ desire to stay at Anfield remains a bit more of an odd situation. According to Goal.com, Meireles is under the impression he had an agreement to be offered a new contract at the end of last season, which hasn’t happened.
It's understood that despite Meireles' statements, a move could very much be on, although Liverpool will insure that they recoup at least the £10 million they paid Porto for the Portuguese international last summer.
Juventus have reportedly been in contact with Liverpool regarding a potential move taking Meireles to Turin.
