Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that Thibaut Courtois is in the process of having a medical at Chelsea, as the club comes to an agreement to make the young goalkeeper their first summer signing.
"At this moment he is having a medical but has not yet agreed personal terms,” Villas Boas said in Kuala Lumpur, as Chelsea prepare for their Asian pre season tour.
The 19-year-old has been touted as one of the future goalkeeping stars in Europe, after being first choice stopper for Belgian side Genk last season.
Courtois will serve as a back up for Chelsea stalwart Petr Cech, but with Cech now pushing the 30-year barrier, it may not be too long before the Belgium international makes the move into first position.
While the fee for Courtois is yet to be disclosed, the Belgian club reportedly said Chelsea offered “by far the largest bid” they had ever received for a player.
The official Chelsea website has claimed that if a deal is decided over the next few days, Courtois still may not be able to join up with the Chelsea squad in Asia.
