Arsenal signing Gervinho has revealed that joining the London club is something he has dreamt of since boyhood, after the Ivory Coast international finally put pen to paper on a four year contract.

Gervinho said yesterday that he was looking forward to joining the Arsenal squad, who are currently participating in a pre-season tour of Asia, after a long drawn-out transfer saga between the Gunners and Lille.

And the striker told L'Equipe today that his deal at Arsenal has fulfilled a goal he has dreamt about since he was a child.

"I am so happy. Negotiations lasted a long time because there were several details which needed to be sorted out between the two clubs," Gervinho said.

"But finally Lille and Arsenal found an agreement and I am experiencing a real happiness. It is a dream that has come true.

"I have dreamt about Arsenal since I was a kid, since my time in Jean-Marc Guillou's academy in the Ivory Coast.”

Gervinho sighted Patrick Vieira, who recently retired from football, as one of his icons, and a part of his decision to head to the Emirates.

“I have always dreamt of playing for the team where Patrick Vieira was so strong. He was one of my idols,” the 24-year-old said.

And Gervinho also insisted that Arsenal will get out of the trophyless run that has lasted for six years now, as Arsene Wenger makes more moves in the transfer window.

"Are Arsenal an ill club? I don't believe they are,” Gervinho said.

“They have just experienced some difficult moments, losing key matches. Anyway, an illness can be cured.

"I will play on the right flank, my best position, but the coach knows I can play on the left or down the centre. I will try to be as efficient as I was at Lille."
