Megson wants Mellor

Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson says striker Neil Mellor remains his number one transfer target.

The 28-year-old netted 20 times last season to finish as the Owls' top scorer while on loan from Preston, but the two clubs have so far failed to agree a permanent deal to take him to Hillsborough.

"We want the lad here, so we don't want to put an end on it," Megson told the Sheffield Telegraph. "He wants to come, the fans want him, everybody wants it."

He added: "We've got to make it happen.

"But the worry I've got is that while we're waiting, some other preferred targets will move on and we'll end up with the dregs."
