Liverpool are on alert for Southampton starlet Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, after the wonderkid admitted he’s hoping to leave the club in pursuit of a Barclays Premier league club.
“Southampton, and especially the fans, have been brilliant to me ever since I broke into the first team," said Oxlade-Chamberlain last night.
“It has been fantastic helping them to get promoted. But now I feel I’m ready to play in the Premier League.”
While Arsenal and Manchester City have been connected with the starlet in the past, Liverpool could be front runners for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s signature, with Kenny Dalglish making it a top priority to target young English players.
City have also reportedly turned their attentions to signing Samir Nasri instead, leaving Liverpool in the front line to capture Oxlade-Chamberlain if Southampton come around to doing a deal.
At only 17, Oxlade-Chamberlain has already clocked an appearance for the England Under 21 squad, and was named in the League One team of the year last season.
The winger is reportedly worth around £12 million, which is certainly within Liverpool’s financial capabilities, and Dalglish is reportedly hoping that Southampton chairman Nicola Cortese will consider letting the youngster leave for the right price.
