Steve Howard showed his worth to Leicester City by scoring all four goals in The Foxes victory over Vasalunds on the final leg of their pre-season tour of Sweden, and then received a further boost ahead of the new season.
With David Nugent, Darius Vassell and a potential new recruit for company, Howard's opportunities are expected to be limited during the new season despite making 35 first-team appearances last season.
But manager Sven Goran Eriksson says Howard's form will dictate his involvement.
"Howard played very well in the second half and had good support from the others," he said.
"If he scores four goals every game, he can go on playing, no problem.
"The team should be stronger this season than last season and the competition is very hard.
"But the ideal thing is we have two players for every position and then it is up to the players.
"He just does need to go on as he does now. He has done a very good pre-season, working very hard, and he is in good shape."
City will face Bursaspor before taking on Valencia and Real Madrid prior to their Npower Championship season starting against Coventry City and Eriksson says preparation for the remainder of their pre-season fixtures has been good.
"It has been very good," he added.
"We have had three games of different quality. The pitches have been good and people have taken care of us very well.
"The weather is good for football as well."
