Amond earns Wednesday chance

Published Add your comment

Sheffield Wednesday boss Gary Megson says he was impressed by trialist Padraig Amond after handing the player his debut in Tuesday's friendly against Rotherham.

Amond, 23, a former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international, currently plies his trade with Portuguese Premier League side Pacos de Ferreira but is due to spend the rest of the week on trial with the Owls.

"He only arrived on Tuesday. We chucked him in and he did well," Megson said.

"He ran in behind, stretched the game and gave us a bit more room to play."

The Owls boss evidently liked the Irishman's first impression and will give him another run-out in their upcoming friendlies.

"He'll play for another 45 minutes at Stocksbridge on Wednesday. His enthusiasm and willingness to run in behind people made other players play better."
