£40m Chelsea striker target decides future

Neymar has confirmed that he wants to stay at Santos next season, despite reports connecting the striker with a move to Chelsea or Real Madrid.

“I will remain at Santos,” Neymar said, confirming that he won’t be leaving his current club, which he is contracted to until 2015.

Bloomberg reports that the youngster has a release clause of £40 million in his contract, and while Chelsea were in the running to land Neymar, Real Madrid were believed to be favourites.

But the Brazilian international, who was impressive in a recent friendly against Scotland, is reportedly planning on staying in his native country for at least another season, which will no doubt come into Villas-Boas’ plans for transfers at Chelsea next summer.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was particularly keen on Neymar, but with the wonderkid now off the radar, the club will look at numerous big cash targets, including Javier Pastore and Joao Moutinho.
