Bristol Rovers boss Paul Buckle expressed his delight at seeing a winning mentality develop at the Memorial Stadium.
While admitting improving fitness is the most important part of pre-season, Buckle was thrilled with the League Two side's 2-0 friendly win over Championship outfit Burnley on Tuesday.
"There has been a lot of doom and gloom at the club over the last year or so, and it is up to us now to put a smile on the fan's faces," he told the club's official website. "We did that, we take these games very seriously, we have been training like that and we are taking that into games.
He added: "We know that the first game against AFC Wimbledon is all that matters, but at the same time I am trying to put the mentality into the players at every training session, that every minute we get we have to grab with two hands.
"We took it very seriously, I am sure Burnley did as well, I am sure they didn't like being beaten.
"I came here to win games, and we have done that in pre-season so far, and that is what we are going to try and take into the season."
