Karl does good for Us

Colchester have swooped to bring former captain Karl Duguid back to the club on a one-year deal.

The midfielder, seventh on United's list of record appearance holders, has been training with the Essex club since parting ways with Plymouth last season.

Duguid returns to Colchester three years after leaving for Home Park, meaning the 33-year-old - who rose through the youth system - is yet to pull on a U's shirt at the club's Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Manager John Ward told United's official website: "It was not something that was on our minds - mine or Karl's - when he came here to train at the start of pre-season.

"But we've had a chat and agreed on a one-year deal for Karl to bolster the squad.

"He has good experience and knows the club pretty well. I like to have good characters at the club as well as good players and I think I've got both with Karl signing."
