Liverpool's pursuit of a new left-back has taken another twist, after the Reds were credited with interest in Uruguay international Álvaro Pereira.
According to Portuguese newspaper ABola, the Reds are 'willing to pay' the €20 million release clause written into Pereira's contract with his current employers Porto.
The 25-year-old - who is in the classic wing-back mould - has been one of Uruguay's star's of the Copa America so far, scoring twice during the competition in which Oscar Tabarez's side have progressed to the final.
Pereira's international teammate - and Liverpool striker - Luis Suarez was the hero in the semi-final, bagging a brace against Peru to set up a clash against Paraguay on Sunday.
Liverpool could seemingly have a trio of Uruguayan's at Anfield next season, if reports are to be believed, with centre-back Diego Godin also linked with a Merseyside switch in recent days.
However, the acquisition of a new full-back remains a priority for Liverpool and, along with Pereira, Kenny Dalglish is also said to be chasing Aly Cissoko of Lyon and Newcastle's Jose Enrique.
It had been suggested in the French press that Liverpool were closing in on a deal for Cissokho, but that has since been denied.
