Dimitar Berbatov will stay with Manchester United next season, despite the striker not being included in the Champions League final line up, according to the Manchester Evening News.
Juventus were reportedly front runners to sign Berbatov, who was the joint top scorer in the Barclays Premier League last season with Carlos Tevez.
But the local paper claims that a deal is no longer on the table, with Sir Alex Ferguson keen to keep Berbatov at United and let the Bulgarian international prove himself next season.
This week Ferguson defended not choosing Berbatov for the United squad on many occasions toward the end of the season, saying the 30-year-old was just unlucky not to receive a place on the side in front of Javier Hernandez.
“It was a difficult decision to leave him out of the final and I know he was disappointed. But we have had a long chat, he has accepted the decision and is looking forward to the new season,” Ferguson said.
And a Manchester United source told the paper, “[the transfer issue] is not something we have to discuss anymore.”
