Arsenal have failed in another attempt to sign Phil Jagielka from Everton, it has been claimed.
According to the Daily Express, the north Londoners made an offer of £10 million for the England international, which was immediately rebuffed by Everton.
It is reportedly the second time Arsenal have made a bid for Jagielka - the first is alleged to have been last summer - with a fee of around £12 million touted.
Whether or not Arsenal will return with an improved offer for the 28-year-old remains to be seen, but Arsene Wenger continues to be frustrated in his pursuit of defensive reinforcements.
The Arsenal boss is desperate to bolster his ranks with an imposing centre-back already accustomed to the intensity of English football has, as of yet, made no progress.
Along with Jagielka, Arsenal have also been linked with Blackburn skipper Chris Samba and highly-rated Bolton defender Gary Cahill.
The former is said to be valued be Rovers at around £10 million, while Cahill will command a fee in the region of £17 million.
