Southampton striker Lee Barnard has signed a new contract to keep him at St Mary's until 2014.

The 27-year-old only arrived in January 2010, penning a two-and-a-half-year deal from Southend for an undisclosed fee.

But with that set to expire next summer, Saints have made a move to ensure he remains at the south-coast club for a further two years.

Barnard bagged 14 league goals last season to help Southampton secure automatic promotion to the Championship, adding to the nine he scored in a Saints shirt over the second half of the 2009/10 campaign.
