Arsenal are planning to make an improved offer for Phil Jagielka, according to The Times.
The England defender was reportedly subject of a £13 million offer from The Gunners last week.
However, Arsenal are now planning to submit an increased offer of £18 million for Jagielka.
After signing Gervinho from Lille, Arsene Wenger is keen to add to an Arsenal defence which endured a difficult season last term.
Defensive problems, particularly in the Carling Cup final, saw the club's bid for a first trophy in six years fail last season.
As well as Jagielka, Arsenal have also been linked with Blackburn Rovers' Chris Samba and Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill.
