Tottenham Hotspur appear set to miss out on midfield target Eliaquim Mangala.
The Standard Liege starlet has been linked with a move to White Hart Lane on a number of occasions since 2009, with Harry Redknapp thought to be keen on making the 20-year-old a Spurs player.
However, talkSPORT reports that Mangala is on the verge of joining Valencia in a £5 million move after pulling out of the Liege squad for tonight's Champions League qualifier against FC Zurich.
The French U21 international is reportedly eager to not become cup-tied, and would therefore be eligible to play in Europe's elite competition at the Mestalla Stadium after Los Che finished third in La Liga last term.
It's a blow to Tottenham Hotspur, who have been linked with a handful of defensive midfielders this summer, including Lassana Diarra.
With Wilson Palacios tipped to make an exit from north London, Spurs are thought to be looking to strengthen in the position, and Mangala would have been the cheapest option given the reported fee on the table.
The club will now have to take their interest elsewhere, although players may have to be sold from Tottenham Hotspur before they make any other moves, with Redknapp hinting that funds are needed
