£18m Arsenal target could spark defensive transfer shuffle

Arsenal could spark a defensive transfer shuffle, should they be successful in their pursuit of Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

The England international is one of a handful of players thought to be on the Emirates radar, with Arsene Wenger eager to strengthen in the position at Arsenal.

Back-to-back draws in the Emirates Cup would have proved the point further to the Gunners boss, with Arsenal throwing away leads in both matches against Boca Juniors and the New York Red Bulls.

It was reported last week that Arsenal had tabled a £15 million offer for the player, but an £18 million offer is thought to be needed to prize the player away from Goodison Park.

The Metro reports that David Moyes has already made contingency plans should Jagielka make the move to Arsenal, with another Gunners target, Christopher Samba, a £12 million option for the Toffees.

Reports have constantly linked the Blackburn Rovers skipper with a move away from Ewood Park this summer, but with the season less than a fortnight away the Congolese international remains under the stewardship of Steve Kean.

Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move, and appear set to target at least one of the pair at some stage in the transfer window.
