Howson lands Leeds captaincy

Published Add your comment

Leeds midfielder Jonny Howson has been appointed club captain by manager Simon Grayson.

Howson, 23, who has made over 200 appearances for Leeds, wore the captain's armband for most of last season in the absence of the injured Richard Naylor.

Grayson said: "Jonny will be our captain this season, we've got other people in the team who could be captain, but they all lead in different ways. I think Jonny's thrived on the responsibility that he's been given."

He continued: "He's a local lad, he loves the club and he leads by example."

Howson is a product of the club's Thorp Arch Academy.

He started all 50 of Leeds' games last season and scored 11 goals.
