Arsenal have been dealt a decisive blow in their pursuit of Italian international Daniele De Rossi.
The Roma midfielder has been linked with a move to England this summer, with Gunners boss Arsene Wenger thought to be keen on bringing the player to the Emirates.
However, Sky Calcio 24 reports that the player has held discussions with sporting director Walter Sabatini, and new boss Luis Enrique has since confirmed that the World Cup winner will be staying at the Stadio Olimpico this summer.
Arsenal were reportedly lining-up the 28-year-old as a possible replacement for Cesc Fabregas or Samir Nasri in north London, according to talkSPORT, but the Frenchman will now have to take his midfielder search elsewhere.
Wenger has stressed his desire to keep the club's current pair at Arsenal this summer, but with constant speculation linking them with a move away from the Emirates the manager is believed to have made potential transfer contingency plans.
De Rossi is now likely to be taken off the Arsenal wishlist, leaving the club to take their transfer search elsewhere.
